How to Remove Rogue Windows XP Antivirus

It becomes necessity for every windows user to have an antivirus software. Because a number of malware programs are designed to exploit security holes in the operating system and infect windows systems.

Annually, malware causes millions of dollars in damage from lost files and other forms of system damage. It is unfortunate that some well-meaning users are tricked into downloading and installing "rogue" antivirus software and find that they have not gotten what they had expected. These programs masquerade as anti virus are in fact malware themselves. These tend to come in two forms, programs that simply do nothing and make it look like your system is infected with some form of malware, and those that try to convince you to pay for their "software" to have the malware removed. One such example of this is XP Antivirus, as its name suggests, masquerades as an anti virus program for XP.

1. Have a free antivirus download software or purchase a real anti malware software package. Norton and McAfee are the leaders in the computer security industry, and their software runs on a large number of computers in both the personal "at home" market and the corporate sector. Alternatives to Norton and McAfee include Microsoft's One Care and Anvisoft’s Anvi Smart Defender.

2. Install your newly purchased malware application. Depending on what anti malware suite you decide to use, the installation can take some time. Just wait for the installation to complete and do not allow your computer to go into hibernation, as this could interrupt the installation.

3. Update your anti malware suite. This is important because if your software is outdated, the tool might not be able to detect and remove XP Antivirus. It is real luck that Anvi Smart Defender provides the function of automatic update. So you can not be worry about forgetting to update.

4. Run your antivirus program once the installation has finished by either clicking the icon that should have been created on your desktop or clicking its icon in the Start menu. You will see an option to run a malware scan. The scan can take some time, depending on the speed of your computer and the size of your hard disk. When the scan finishes, you will be prompted to take action to remove any infections, including XP Antivirus that the tool had found.

5. Take those recommended actions; usually the tools will recommend that you quarantine and delete the malware, and this can easily be done by clicking a button.
